New York’s Airbnb site is getting some extra attention after the New York Post reported that the company was charging guests $5k for the right to stay in a room in a hotel.
The Post reports that the hotel’s online booking system allows users to book rooms for a flat fee of $5 per night and $1 per night per room.
The website states that Airbnb does not charge guests for room services and that guests can cancel a room booking and still stay at the hotel.
A spokesperson for Airbnb said in a statement that the booking system does not allow guests to cancel rooms and has always provided a refund for cancellations.
The spokesperson also said that Airbnb was working on an update to the site to improve its privacy policies and that the website has been updated to make it easier to book a room.
However, the spokesperson did not address the Post’s claim that the $5-per-night rate was a “room service charge.”
Airbnb did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
